Alstom Fits 100th Norwegian Train with ERTMS Technology

Alstom has reached a new milestone in the digital rail transformation of Norway with the upgrade of the 100th train to incorporate onboard European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) signalling technology. The signalling programme, which is one of the most ambitious in Europe, will ultimately see more than 350 trains converted to utilise the state-of-the-art technology.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance rail safety and efficiency across the Norwegian rail network. ERTMS is designed to improve train control and management, facilitating better communication between trains and infrastructure.

Alstom’s involvement in this project underscores its commitment to advancing rail technology and supporting the Norwegian government’s goals for modernising its rail system. The company has been actively working on this upgrade since the project commenced, demonstrating its expertise in implementing complex signalling solutions.

As the 100th train is fitted with ERTMS, Alstom continues to collaborate with various stakeholders in the rail industry to ensure a seamless transition to this advanced signalling system. The successful integration of ERTMS is expected to significantly enhance operational performance and passenger experience.

Looking ahead, Alstom plans to maintain its momentum in the Norwegian market, focusing on further upgrades and innovations that align with the evolving needs of rail operators and passengers alike.
