Arriva Orders Five Stadler FLIRTs for Dutch Provinces
Private operator Arriva Nederland has placed an order for five new FLIRT electric multiple units from Stadler. This acquisition aims to enhance regional rail services on the Vechtdallijnen in the Dutch provinces of Overijssel and Drenthe.
The FLIRT (Fast Light Innovative Regional Train) units are designed to improve operational efficiency and passenger comfort. They are equipped with modern amenities and advanced technology to meet the demands of regional transport.
Delivery of the new trains is scheduled for 2025, coinciding with the start of a new operational contract for Arriva on the Vechtdallijnen. This contract is part of a broader initiative to modernize the rail network in the region.
Arriva’s decision to invest in additional rolling stock reflects its commitment to providing reliable and efficient rail services. The FLIRT units will replace older trains, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transport solution.
Stadler has a strong track record in delivering innovative rail solutions across Europe. The FLIRT model has been well-received in various markets, known for its versatility and performance in regional service.
This order is part of Arriva’s ongoing strategy to enhance its fleet and improve service quality for passengers in the Netherlands. The investment aligns with the company’s goals of increasing ridership and promoting public transport as a viable alternative to road travel.
