Hupac to Launch New Germany-Spain Service

Swiss intermodal operator Hupac is set to enhance freight connectivity between Germany and Spain with the launch of a new service starting June 22, 2026. The service will operate three times a week, connecting the Duisburg Gateway Terminal in Germany with the Barcelona Combiconnect facility, located in La Llagosta, north of Barcelona.

The first train will depart from Duisburg on Monday, June 22, while the inaugural journey from Barcelona to Duisburg is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24. Hupac's strategic decision to utilize the Combiconnect terminal is aimed at improving operational flexibility and capacity, which is crucial for meeting the growing demand for intermodal transport in Europe.

The Combiconnect terminal recently underwent a significant upgrade costing 80 million euros, allowing it to accommodate standard gauge traffic. This upgrade facilitates seamless connections to France and other European destinations, thereby enhancing the terminal's role as a key logistics hub. The first trains from Antwerp to the terminal began arriving in January 2026, marking a new chapter in its operational capabilities.

Hupac's initiative is expected to attract freight forwarders and logistics companies looking for efficient transport solutions between Germany and Spain. The increased frequency of service will likely lead to improved supply chain efficiencies for businesses operating in these regions.
