ICF to supply trains for future ‘world-class suburban rail network’ in

Bengaluru's suburban rail network is set to receive a significant upgrade with the recent order placed by the Bengaluru suburban rail network development agency, Bi-RIDE. The agency has contracted Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to supply 51 metro-style trainsets for a total of Rs15.1 billion. This investment aims to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the city's public transport system.

The trainsets will consist of three-car electric multiple units (EMUs) designed to operate on a 25 kV 50 Hz system. Each trainset will measure 63 meters in length and accommodate up to 1,052 passengers, with a maximum operational speed of 85 km/h. This design aligns with modern urban transit needs, focusing on high capacity and efficiency.

The introduction of these trainsets is part of a broader initiative to develop the Mallige and Kanaka lines, which are expected to significantly improve connectivity in Bengaluru. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city, which has been a persistent issue due to rapid urbanization and population growth.
