Irish Rail Expands DART+ Fleet with 100 More Alstom X’trapolis Cars

Alstom has finalized a contract valued at €160 million with Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) to supply an additional 100 X’trapolis commuter trains. This agreement is part of a broader investment initiative totaling €173.9 million aimed at enhancing rail services in Ireland.

The new fleet will be integrated into the DART+ program, which is designed to improve the capacity and efficiency of commuter rail services in the Dublin area. The X’trapolis trains are expected to provide increased frequency and reliability for passengers.

Delivery of the new trains is scheduled to commence in 2024, with the first units expected to enter service by 2025. This expansion is crucial for accommodating the anticipated growth in passenger numbers and enhancing the overall travel experience.

Alstom’s X’trapolis trains are known for their modern design and energy efficiency, which aligns with Irish Rail’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. The new fleet will feature advanced technology aimed at improving operational performance and passenger comfort.

This investment is part of a larger strategy by Iarnród Éireann to modernize its fleet and infrastructure, ensuring that it meets the demands of a growing population and supports the Irish government’s transport objectives.

In addition to the new trains, the investment will also support upgrades to existing rail infrastructure, enhancing the overall capacity and reliability of the rail network in Ireland.
