METRANS Starts Construction of New Intermodal Hub in Southern Hungary
The Czechia-based rail freight operator METRANS has commenced the construction of a new intermodal logistics hub in Szeged, Hungary. This facility is designed to enhance the company’s operational capabilities in the region.
The new terminal is strategically located to facilitate efficient cargo handling and improve connectivity between rail and road transport. METRANS aims to bolster its service offerings in southern Hungary and expand its intermodal network across Central Europe.
Construction of the hub is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Once operational, the terminal will provide state-of-the-art facilities for loading and unloading containers, as well as storage solutions for various types of cargo.
METRANS has indicated that the new hub will significantly reduce transit times for freight moving between Hungary and other European countries. The facility is anticipated to handle a substantial volume of intermodal traffic, contributing to the growth of rail freight in the region.
In addition to improving logistics efficiency, the Szeged hub is expected to create job opportunities in the local area, supporting the regional economy. METRANS is committed to investing in infrastructure that promotes sustainable transport solutions.
The development of the Szeged intermodal hub aligns with METRANS’ broader strategy to enhance its intermodal services and strengthen its position in the European logistics market.
