NS Launches East Edge Double-Stack Service

Norfolk Southern (NS) announced on January 21 the launch of East Edge, a newly cleared double-stack intermodal corridor that connects Chicago and New England. This new service replaces a single-stack route, resulting in reduced transit times by up to 24 hours.

The East Edge corridor is designed to enhance capacity and efficiency for intermodal freight movement in the region. By accommodating double-stack containers, NS aims to meet the growing demand for intermodal services while improving overall service reliability.

NS has invested in infrastructure improvements along the corridor to support the new service, including clearance enhancements and track upgrades. The company anticipates that the East Edge will facilitate increased freight volumes and provide customers with more competitive transit options.

With the launch of East Edge, NS is positioning itself to better serve the evolving needs of its customers in the intermodal sector. The corridor is expected to play a significant role in the company’s growth strategy moving forward.
