PESA Bydgoszcz has successfully completed speed tests on new electric multiple units (EMUs) for Czech private operator RegioJet, achieving a significant milestone by reaching a speed of 200 km/h at the Velim Test Center. This accomplishment not only marks a technical achievement but also indicates the readiness of these trains for future commercial operations.
The testing program, which involved mechanics, engineers, and technical experts, confirmed the EMUs' excellent performance in acceleration, stability, and dynamic behavior at high speeds. PESA representatives highlighted that the project exemplifies effective collaboration between Polish and Czech engineering teams, reinforcing PESA's position in the Central European rail market.
Following the successful speed tests, the next phases of the testing program will include further technical and operational checks to ensure the trains are fully prepared for interregional rail services. RegioJet plans to launch the first commercial passenger services using these new EMUs in December 2026.
The PESA EMU 666 and EMU 667 models are designed for maximum speeds of 200 km/h and feature multi-system capabilities, allowing them to operate on both 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC systems. This adaptability is crucial for running on international and cross-border routes, enhancing RegioJet's service offerings.
Additionally, the new trains comply with European interoperability standards (TSI) and are equipped with the ETCS Level 2 signaling and control system. Passenger amenities include first- and second-class seating, family spaces, and catering facilities, which are expected to improve the overall travel experience and attract more customers.
