SNCF Delays Launch of First TGV M Sets to July 2024
France’s next-generation high-speed fleet is experiencing further delays, as the launch of SNCF’s first TGV M sets has been postponed to July 2024. Initially, the first units were expected to enter service earlier, but production and testing challenges have necessitated this shift.
The TGV M is designed to enhance capacity and efficiency in France’s high-speed rail network. With a maximum speed of 320 km/h, the new trains are expected to accommodate up to 740 passengers, offering a significant increase in capacity compared to previous models.
Manufactured by Alstom, the TGV M sets are part of a broader strategy by SNCF to modernize its fleet and improve service reliability. The new trains will feature advanced technology, including improved energy efficiency and passenger comfort.
As of now, SNCF has ordered a total of 100 TGV M sets, with the first units expected to operate on the Paris to Lyon route. The delay in service commencement is attributed to ongoing testing and certification processes, which are critical to ensuring safety and operational standards.
Industry analysts note that while the delay is disappointing, it is essential for SNCF to ensure that the TGV M meets all regulatory requirements before entering service. The new fleet is anticipated to play a crucial role in meeting increasing passenger demand and enhancing the overall performance of the French high-speed rail network.
In summary, the first TGV M sets will now be operational by July 2024, with ongoing efforts focused on ensuring the successful integration of these advanced trains into the existing rail infrastructure.
