Impact
positiveCargoBeamer's expansion will benefit shippers and logistics companies by providing more reliable intermodal transport options, while also enhancing the company's competitive position in the French market.
In a strategic move to capitalize on increasing demand, CargoBeamer is expanding its semi-trailer service along the Calais-Perpignan corridor. The company, which specializes in intermodal transport, has announced the addition of a sixth weekly round-trip, set to commence in June 2026. This expansion will enable daily departures from Monday to Saturday, significantly enhancing service availability for customers.
Originally, CargoBeamer operated only two weekly round-trips on this route, but demand has surged, prompting the company to increase its service frequency to four round-trips in 2025 and now to six. The latest increase comes on the heels of a reported 40% rise in demand over the past six to eight months, a growth that CargoBeamer attributes to improved stability and predictability in rail operations following previous disruptions.
Boris Timm, COO of CargoBeamer, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, "We are very pleased with the sustainable growth we are seeing on the Calais – Perpignan route and have established CargoBeamer as one of the leading intermodal operators for semi-trailers and containers in France." This sentiment reflects the company's confidence in the market's recovery and its strategic positioning within the French intermodal landscape.
The Calais-Perpignan route is crucial for intermodal transport, connecting the Spanish border to the Channel. The service is capable of handling both craneable and non-craneable semi-trailers, including refrigerated units and tank trailers, with a transit time of approximately 28 hours. This efficiency not only meets growing market demands but also aligns with sustainability goals, as CargoBeamer claims that its service reduces carbon emissions by about 93% per transported unit compared to conventional diesel road transport.
As CargoBeamer enhances its service offerings, it positions itself to attract more shippers and logistics companies looking for reliable and eco-friendly transportation solutions. The increased frequency of service is likely to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty, further solidifying CargoBeamer's role in the intermodal sector.
