Ukrainian Railways uses bogie change tech on new route from Romania

Ukrainian Railways (UZ) has initiated a new freight service that connects Constanta port on the Black Sea in Romania with Perechyn in western Ukraine. This service, which commenced operations on May 6, 2026, aims to attract new customers as UZ faces declining freight volumes and revenues. The first trip successfully transported rolled steel from Constanta to Perechyn, marking a significant operational milestone for UZ.

To enhance efficiency, UZ is employing specialized bogie change technology that allows for rapid gauge adjustments. This technology enables the conversion of 60-foot-long fitting platforms from a 1,520-millimeter gauge to a 1,435-millimeter gauge without the need to unload the cargo.
