FS completes track laying for Brescia–Verona high-speed line
The Brescia-Verona high-speed/high-capacity railway line reached a milestone on January 23, 2023, as track-laying was completed in the Lonato municipality. The 47-kilometre line is part of the Mediterranean Corridor, which aims to enhance connectivity across Europe.
This project is being developed by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) and is expected to significantly reduce travel times between Brescia and Verona. The line will facilitate both passenger and freight services, contributing to the overall efficiency of rail transport in the region.
Completion of the track-laying phase is a critical step towards the line’s operational readiness. The project has been designed to accommodate high-speed trains, which will operate at speeds of up to 300 km/h. This will not only improve passenger experience but also promote the use of rail as a sustainable transport option.
In addition to enhancing passenger services, the Brescia-Verona line is anticipated to bolster freight transport capabilities. By providing a dedicated high-capacity route, the project aims to alleviate congestion on existing lines and improve logistics efficiency in the area.
FS has emphasized the importance of this line in the context of Italy’s broader rail modernization efforts. The completion of track laying is a significant achievement, but further work remains to be done, including the installation of signaling systems and other infrastructure necessary for safe and efficient operations.
As the project progresses, stakeholders will be closely monitoring developments to ensure that timelines are met and that the line is integrated effectively into the existing rail network. The Brescia-Verona high-speed line is expected to play a vital role in enhancing regional connectivity and supporting economic growth.
