Le paiement par carte bancaire dans le métro parisien à partir de juil

Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) plans to enhance the payment options for users of the Paris metro by introducing card payment terminals starting in July 2027. This initiative targets the most tourist-heavy metro lines, aiming to facilitate access for visitors and occasional users who may not be familiar with the existing ticketing system.

The rollout will begin on June 30, 2026, with the installation of terminals at the Orly Airport station on Line 14. Following this, from July 8, 2026, users will also be able to validate their journeys using card payments on the Montmartre funicular. This phased approach allows IDFM to test the system and gather user feedback before expanding to the entire metro network by 2030.

The introduction of card payment systems is expected to significantly improve the user experience for tourists, who often face challenges navigating the existing ticketing options. By simplifying the payment process, IDFM aims to attract more visitors to use public transport, potentially increasing ridership and revenue for the metro system.

Local transport operators and businesses in the vicinity of tourist attractions may also benefit from this change, as easier access to the metro could lead to higher foot traffic in these areas. Additionally, the move aligns with broader trends in urban transport towards cashless transactions, reflecting changing consumer preferences.
